Step by Step / Manual
With VNC Remote Install you can install VNC on a remote Windows (2000 / XP...) machine. The user who is sitting in front of the remote computer does NOT have to do anything.
Another feature of VNC Remote Install is 'BatchInstallation'. With this option you can distribute VNC to many remote computers with only some less mousclicks.
It is possible to create some registry settings (VNC Settings) on the remote machine as well.
1. Adhoc remote installation on a remote computer
First please start VNC Remote Install.

If you don't have already choosen the winvnc.exe fiel, please klick on [...] 'Locate your WinVNC' and choose your winvnc.exe executable.
All files wich ar in the same folder as the choosen WinVNC.exe will be copied to the remote computer(s).
Now please enter a computername in the field Remote Host. On this host WinVNC will be unattended remotely installed.
In the field RemoteNetworkPath you have to write down how the remote computer will be accessed. This should be a valid network-share. Normally you could use the 'Admin-Share' (c$). If you don't want to use this share you could replace it by another valid share on this remote machine.
The next field Local Dir to VNC on Remote Host has to contain the 'local view' to the VNC-folder.
This setting is very important, because the VNC service is installed with this value.
Example:
If you enter the following value into 'RemoteNetworkPath':
C$\Program Files\WinVNC
then you sould write down
C:\Program Files\WinVNC
into the field 'Local Dir to VNC on Remote Host'
In order to make sure that you can access the remote computer you have to enter a valid user account into the field Admin User. You have to write it down with logon-Domain (logon-domain could be your network-DOMAIN or the remote computer).
It should look like this:
YOURDOMAIN\YOURUSERACCOUNT
It is possible to use
%host%\YOURUSERACCOUNT
VNC Remote Install will replace %host% with the value in the field 'Remote Host'.
Best way is to use the Domain-Admin-User. But it is possible to use a local admin too.
The field Password should contain the valid password for the user you have entered above.
The winnvc-service needs a valid default password on the remote computer: You have to enter a valid crypted password (HEX-Code) into the field VNC Password.
You have two options to get a hex-password:
Click on button [std] to set the password to start. Or click on the other button to read your current VNC password wich is stored in your registry.
Remote VNC Registry Settings
There are many variants of VNC wich have their own settings and options. We have implemented a featuer which allows you to create individual settings for the remote vnc server. The meaning of the different settings you could read in your VNC user manual.
All settings which are set in VNC Remote Install will be stored on the remote computer's registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Orl\WinVnc3\Default.
In the frame Connect to Host you could enter some settings to make a quick connect after you have installed VNC on the remote computer. If you press 'Connect' the vncviewer (same dir as the choosen winvnc.exe) will be launched.
2. Remote installation with Batch-Script on many computers
The VNC Remote Install - Batch Installation enables you a handy remote VNC installation on many computers in your network.
The meanings of the fields on the mainscreen are the same like when you install VNC on a single machine.
Please make sure that you have filled up as many fields of the mainscreen as possible.
For some fileds it is possible to fill them dynamicly from the batch script. You can see if a field supports this option when you hover over it with the mouse cursor. In the statusbar you can read a message like this:
Name for Batchprocessing {FIELDNAME}
Some buttons are supported in the batch script too.
Please fill up your needed fields and click on Batch Installation.
The window for the batch-installation is now appearing:

You have three different ways to build a batch script:
1. Entering the whole batch script manually.
2. You enter all the hostnames in the batch script textbox and press [Create Script]. VNC Remote Install will now create a minimum script from the hostnames.
3. Generate a minimized script based on a hostlist from a textfile: [Create Skript from Hostlist]
In the yellow textbox beside you could see a full batchscript. Lines beginning with # will be ignored like a comment.
If you would like to confirm every single step of the batch installation activate the checkbox [x] StepByStep .
The button [Switch install mode] changes the actual script from install to uninstall and from uninstall to install.
When you click on [Start Batch processing] the installation starts.
After the installation a installation-log is presented you. There you could analyze errors or create a script again for hosts with errors.
